On Wednesday night there was a report of a fireball that people
think was a meteor. People reported a very bright light in the sky and
felt the ground shaking. Pieces of this meteorite knocked down some
trees and started them on fire in Avoca, which is a town in southwest
Wisconsin.
A meteor is a piece of rock or metal from space that gets caught in
Earth's gravity. If a meteor lands on the ground, it's called a
meteorite. Usually a meteor doesn't land because it comes in so fast
that the friction makes it get so hot that it burns up.
I got my information from _The Wisconsin State Journal_ of Friday,
April 16 and from my dad, who works at the UW Space Science and
Engineering Center.
